Janet Weinberg

Janet Weinberg (she/her) was executive vice president of the Educational Alliance until her death on September 1, 2018. She worked for over 35 years in healthcare/social services, with 30 of those years in supervisory and upper management roles.
In 2005, she joined Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC), where she held four different positions, her final role being that of interim CEO/COO. Prior to working at GMHC, Janet served as co-chair of the board of directors at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center; when her board term limits were completed, she became the Center’s director of development. She served the Center for a total of 11 years.
Prior to joining the nonprofit sector, Janet worked as an occupational therapist. She began as a line staff member and ended up running an OT unit of 1,000 therapists.
During Janet’s career, she was the recipient of numerous awards from the New York City Board of Education, local political clubs, and professional organizations honoring her many years of service in the nonprofit sector.
Janet was one of the five incorporators of the American LGBTQ+ Museum.
