Dennis Cheng
Deputy Chief of Protocol, US Department of State
Dennis Cheng (he/him) has held leadership roles in politics, government, philanthropy, and business. In 2020, he was Senior Advisor for External Outreach for the Biden-Harris campaign. In 2016, he served as National Finance Director of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, where he built and directed a fundraising operation that raised nearly $1 billion. Prior to the 2016 campaign, he was Chief Development Officer of the Clinton Foundation, where he launched and led a $250 million endowment drive to secure the foundation’s future.
During the Obama administration, Dennis had the privilege of serving as Deputy Chief of Protocol of the United States, where he oversaw official visits of foreign heads of state, coordinated multilateral summits hosted by the president, and served as a primary liaison at the State Department to the foreign diplomatic corps.
From 2017 to 2019, Dennis was Executive-in-Residence and Head of Investor Relations at Betaworks, a start-up platform and early-stage venture capital fund in New York City. He serves as Founding Board Member of Onward Together, a nonprofit organization established by Hillary Clinton to encourage people to organize, get involved, and run for office. He is now Principal of Cheng Strategies LLC.
Dennis is a graduate of Swarthmore College and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
