Carly Machado
Senior Administrative Associate
Carly Machado (she/her) is the Senior Administrative Associate at the American LGBTQ+ Museum, where she supports the Executive Director, Board of Trustees, and the executive and programmatic operations that advance the Museum’s mission to preserve and share queer history. With more than a decade of experience across philanthropy, investments, and nonprofit administration, Carly brings a deep commitment to organizational excellence and values-aligned collaboration.
Before joining the Museum, Carly served over four years in the Office of the President at the Ford Foundation, first as Department Coordinator and later as Special Assistant. In that capacity, she supported the strategic goals of the President’s discretionary grantmaking mandate and project-managed and produced domestic and international convenings and initiatives. She served a three-year term on the Good Neighbor Committee as a Program Officer, and volunteered as co-facilitator of the LGBTQ+ employee resource group. Prior to Ford, Carly spent over seven years as administrator in the Investments Office of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she supported investment operations and trustee engagement, and also co-led the museum’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group.
Outside of her professional roles, Carly has volunteered extensively with Court Appointed Special Advocates of Hudson County and CASA NYC. She is deeply committed to advancing the wellbeing of children and youth in the child welfare system, with particular attention to the experiences of queer youth. Carly has also volunteered with and supports the work of The Doula Program to Accompany & Comfort, an organization that pairs trained volunteers to act as companions to New Yorkers facing end of life alone. She currently serves on the Queering Committee of G.L.A.M. (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museum) Workers.
Carly earned her B.A. in Classics and Art History from Oberlin College, where she was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow. She is a proud alum of the College Year in Athens program in Greece.
Carly lives in Brooklyn with her cats, Lillian and Mustache.
