Celebrating The GSA Experience

Virtual Presentation
Event Description:
On May 9th 2022, Staten Island GSA (Genders & Sexualities Alliances) students gathered together at the Alice Austen House, a nationally designated site of LGBTQ+ history. They had meetings for several weeks to prepare a program for other students across America to reflect on their GSA experiences and share their thoughts on LGBTQ+ representation in schools and community spaces. We thank them for their thoughtful insights and hope that their words inspire you to lead your GSA to new heights.
GSAs are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQ+ and allied youth to build community and organize around issues impacting them in their schools and communities. GSAs have evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth in middle schools and high schools, and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice. – GSAnetwork.org
Live introduction given by Victoria Munro, Alice Austen House, and Ben Garcia, American LGBTQ+ Museum.
This free program is presented in collaboration with the American LGBTQ+ Museum, the Alice Austen House and Staten Island GSA students and their leadership.
