In‑person Screening: Lesbian Bar Project at Henrietta Hudson

This event has passed

About the Event:

In the 1980s, there were 200 Lesbian Bars in the US. Today there are fewer than 30.

Queer spaces, such as Henrietta Hudson, have long been the sites of community organizing and activism for our movement. As these bars disappear, The Lesbian Bar Project [LBP] was established to celebrate, support, and amplify those that remain.

Join the American LGBTQ+ Museum for a screening of an episode of the Lesbian Bar Project documentary series (Season 1) at Henrietta Hudson, followed by a panel conversation among:

  • Lea DeLaria: Actor | Comedian | Jazz Singer | Executive Producer, LBP
  • Lisa Cannistraci: Owner | Operator, Henrietta Hudson
  • Cassandra Grant: Educator | Activist | Founding Member, Salsa Soul Sisters
  • Erica Rose: Director | Creator, LBP
  • Elina Street: Director | Creator, LBP

All Museum guests who RSVP will receive a token for one free drink at Hen’s to kick off their night of celebrating lesbian bars and their histories. *must be 21+ to attend*

“What I have learned in my 75 years of living is that struggle for freedom and justice is empowering, encouraging and enlightening, and most of all connecting to all things that bring about good and great changes in our society.  So don’t be fearful of the struggle, engage yourself and encourage others to part of justice for all, especially those who have been marginalized all of their lives. Take a moment to reflect on their painful and enduring journey.”

– Cassandra Grant, Founding member of Salsa Soul Sisters
