Asherde Gill

Development Associate

Asherde Gill (They/Them) is the Development Associate at the American LGBTQ+ Museum. Asherde has four years of experience in development, theatre, and photography. They were born in Brooklyn, NY, and have roots on the island of Trinidad. In 2020, they received their Bachelor’s degree from Muhlenberg College. They formerly worked as a Theatre Educator and Grants Manager at Epic Theatre Ensemble and a Development Associate at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Healing through art, mentoring the next generation of NY-based artmakers, and building communities rooted in care are cornerstones of the work that is important to them.

Asherde was the 2025 Leica Fellow at the International Center of Photography and a 2023 Artist2Artist fellow at Art Matters. Through image-making and 4×5 photography, they honor LGBTQ+ histories and investigate the impacts of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on lives on the Island of Trinidad and across the Caribbean.

They currently live in East Flatbush with their partner and look forward to welcoming a cat or puppy to their little family in the near future. They cannot wait for the world to experience this historic opening of the American LGBTQ+ Museum.
